We will be creating this mosaic at our upcoming workshop. It is created from a photo of an olive tree growing at the entrance to the Cardo in Jerusalem – the heart of the city.
The olive tree and it’s braches are a symbol of both the Jewish people and the Jewish Messiah.
The Lord says of Israel:
“Also your people shall all be righteous; they shall inherit the land forever, the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, that I may be glorified.” Isa 60:21
“The Lord called your name,
Green Olive Tree, Lovely and of Good Fruit” Jer 11:6
“His branches shall spread; His beauty shall be like an olive tree,
And his fragrance like Lebanon.
Those who dwell under his shadow shall return;They shall be revived like grain,
And grow like a vine”. Hosea 14:6-7
The Lord also promised that He would raise up a righteous Branch to rule Israel and the nations:
“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. Jer 23:5
There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,
And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.
The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. Isa 11:1
For behold, I am bringing forth My Servant the BRANCH. Zech 3:8
Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH!
From His place He shall branch out,
And He shall build the temple of the Lord; Zech 6:12
Here we see the Branch as a son of David, ruling in righteousness on the throne which is is fulfillment of the Davidic covenant. This is a picture of Yeshua the Messiah, and His coming reign on the earth.
This mosaic reminds us of the promises of God to Israel, and inspires us to pray for their fulfillment. As we see the olive tree growing in the heart of Jerusalem, and the light shining out, we look forward to Messiah the Branch returning to His people and city, and we pray that the hearts and minds of Israel are opened to recognise Him as their King.
