Is it Yeshua or something else? If people don\u2019t pronounce the L-rd\u2019s name correctly, are they really saved? These and other similar questions have led us to the discussion of the pronunciation of the name of Jesus, but have also opened up a much more critical issue.<\/p>\n<p>If this discussion is only about linguistics and pronunciation, here is a synopsis of where the name of Jesus came from. Because of the way that vowels shorten in Hebrew, it is impossible to have the name Yahushua (yah-hu\u2019-shoo-ah), Yahashua (yah-ha\u2019-shoo-ah) or Yahshua (yah\u2019-shoo-ah) with the spelling given in Scripture. The spelling of the name \u05d9\u05b5\u05e9\u05c1\u05ab\u05d5\u05bc\u05e2 (Yeshua) is used thirty times in the Tenach <span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_168_1('footnote_plugin_reference_168_1_3');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_168_1('footnote_plugin_reference_168_1_3');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_168_1_3\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">(3)<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_168_1_3\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">\u00a0Strong\u2019s Exhaustive Concordance, Jeshua [3442,3443]<\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_168_1_3').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_168_1_3', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'bottom right', relative: true, offset: [-10, -10], });<\/script>, and refers to ten different people, predating the Christian era by at least 500 years. In the Septuagint<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_168_1('footnote_plugin_reference_168_1_4');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_168_1('footnote_plugin_reference_168_1_4');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_168_1_4\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">(4)<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_168_1_4\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">The Septuagint is a Greek version of the Scriptures fully translated by the 2nd\u00a0century BCE, from which the New Testament authors frequently quote. <span class=\"footnote_url_wrap\">http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Septuagint<\/span><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_168_1_4').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_168_1_4', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'bottom right', relative: true, offset: [-10, -10], });<\/script> the name in those same texts is translated as \u0406\u03b7\u03c3\u03bf\u03c5\u03c2 (ee-ay-sooce\u2019), which is the exact name for Jesus as used by the New Testament authors. Also <a class=\"bibleserver extern\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleserver.com\/text\/NIV\/Hebrews4%3A8\" target=\"_blank\">Heb. 4:8<\/a> uses the name \u0406\u03b7\u03c3\u03bf\u03c5\u03c2 (ee-ay-sooce\u2019) to refer to Joshua son of Nun. The Greek was then translated into the Latin Vulgate, becoming Iesus; which was translated into German where the \u201cI\u201d became a \u201cJ\u201d, and then finally into English as Jesus (Je\u2019-zus). Each time that we have met someone who insists that Yeshua\u2019s name must be pronounced Ya-hu\u2019-shu-a or Yah\u2019-shu-a, they have also ended up denying the deity of Yeshua. Coincidence? Maybe not.<\/p>\n<p>The attempt to change the pronunciation has to do with inserting the Tetragrammaton (YHWH) into the name of Yeshua. The (mis)translation of the name is an attempt to change the meaning of Yeshua\u2019s name from \u201cHe is Salvation\u201d to \u201cYah is Salvation,\u201d thereby claiming that Yeshua is only a man who represented G-d. Dr. Botkin wrote that the Sacred Name movement used <a class=\"bibleserver extern\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleserver.com\/text\/NIV\/John5%3A43\" target=\"_blank\">John 5:43<\/a> as a \u201cproof\u201d of the Yahshua form, since Yah is a shortened form of Yahweh, and Yeshua \u201ccame in His Father\u2019s name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coming \u201cin the name\u201d of another actually means to be appointed as their representative on their behalf i.e. an ambassador or lawyer. This was accomplished by Yeshua being the exact representation, or \u201cimage of the invisible God\u201d (<a class=\"bibleserver extern\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bibleserver.com\/text\/NIV\/Colossians1%3A15-18\" target=\"_blank\">Col 1:15-18<\/a>).
